Front End Developer
Corporate/Technology
Condé Nast seeks a Front End Developer for a full-time staff position.
Condé Nast is home to some of the world’s most celebrated media brands. In the United States, Condé Nast publishes 18 consumer magazines, four business-to-business publications, 27 websites, and more than 40 apps for mobile and tablet devices, all of which define excellence in their categories. The company also owns Fairchild Fashion Media (FFM), whose portfolio of brands serves as the leading source of news and analysis for the global fashion community. Condé Nast has won more National Magazine Awards over the past ten years than all of its competitors combined. Follow us on Twitter @CondeNastCorp and @CondeNastCareer.
The technology department of Condé Nast is an established organization which runs a cutting‐edge open source stack, develops locally on Mac hardware, and controls our versions with Mercurial. Our front end code is developed in shared libraries, so your commit may be powering a dozen or more sites very quickly. We expect great code but we also have the supportive environment that allows our employees to create it.
Overview
Condé Nast is seeking a Senior Javascript Engineer to become an indispensable member of a team that builds and supports award-winning web sites for some of the world’s top brands. The position requires architecting and designing code that can be easily enhanced and reused rather than writing one‐offs. The Front EndDeveloper will be working with back end and front end engineers and product managers, rolling high‐quality, reusable code for new products and features. He/she will also be adding to and maintaining both site and shared library code, and giving input and direction to our development processes.
General responsibilities could include:
  • Expertise in HTML, CSS, and cross‐browser layout issues
  • Advanced JavaScript knowledge
  • Expertise in a JavaScript library (jQuery preferred) ‐ not just wiring up events on the DOM
  • Knowledge of JavaScript design patterns and current issues and practices
  • Awareness of the issues involved when creating shared code
  • Experience writing code for humans, not just machines
  • Experience with a server side framework and page templating (JSTL, .NET, RoR, etc)
  • Experience with version control (DCVS such as Git or Mercurial ideal)
  • Ability to consider and judge multiple approaches to a problem
  • Ability to mentor junior team members
The ideal candidate will be innovative; interested in applying new techniques and design patterns, but also fluent in current best practices and standards. He/she will be an engineer who takes pride in writing reusable code with an emphasis on quality over quantity.
